These pictures show how one of the quilts is folded.
The images are not a wonderful quality, and have not been
edited. But if you click on these small images, a larger
image will appear in another window, which should be easier
to see.
1.
Start off with a square of paper and the following base:

 |
|
3.
The frist few steps are making four crease lines, as shown in pictures 2, 3
and 4. I seem to have lost picture 2, but it should be easy to see where
these lines are folded.

4.

5.
Open everything out after the previous step, and fold in half along the diagonal. fold over the corners to make creases like this, then open out.
| | |
6.
Fold over to the creases made in the previous step.
| | |
7.
Open out and repeat steps 5 and 6 on the other diagonal.
| | |
8.
Now fold the preliminary base, but fold along two extra concentric
squares already creased, so this is a sink and then a sink again in the
opposite direction.
| | |
9.
Same as previous picture, from different view point.
| | |
10.
Fold up front flat.
| | |
11.
Fold open and squash down the smaller inside flap, as shown in pictures
11-13.
| | |
12.
| | |
13.
| | |
14.
Repeat 11-13 on the other side.
| | |
15.
| | |
16.
Now fold along the folds made in steps 5,6,7.
| | |
17.

This is the finished unit
| | |
23.
For the smaller units needed, remove the corners of the same sized
paper as used for the bigger units.
| | |
24.
The smaller unit can be folded in the same way as the larger one. Then
they are slid together.
| | |
25.
| | |
26.
After sliding together the units on the back, small flap on the smaller
unit must be fitted into the slit on the front of the bigger unit.
This is quite fiddly. You might try using a tooth pick to push the flaps into
place.
| | |
27.
| | |
28.
| | |
29. Once you've got the small
flaps in the slit, the link of the units is quite strong.
| | |
30.
| | |
31. This pictures shows a variation
on the smaller unit, with the middle square folded through the other way.
This can be done by making an extra sink at step 8 above.
| | |
32.

The more units you make, the better it should hold together.
Small units always go at the corners of 4 larger units.
Various variations are possible by changing the directions of
various folds. Paper with a different colour towards the center or
corners is good for this model. Colours on both sides will give a
reversible model.
